Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Walk for Harmony

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity - 24 May to 3 June

"That they may become one in your hand" (Ezekiel 37:17)

In 2009 the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (which is also the UN Year of Reconciliation) overlaps with the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation. The resources offer fresh encouragement to churches in Australia to worship together locally, to witness to their unity in Christ, and to pray and act for the greater visible expression of that unity.

Resources, such as an order of service, daily prayers and reflections are available to download.

Sunday 12 July - 1pm to 3.30pm
Commencing at Carlton Gardens, proceeding through the City to Federation Square, there will be music and speakers at the beginning and end of the walk..
Aim: To respond to recent attacks on young Indians and much negative publicity about Melbourne by a Walk together which celebrates and affirms racial harmony in multi-cultural Victoria.

NATSIEC Statement for Week of Prayer for Reconciliation
  JCMA Statement

Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye with never a thought for the plank in your own? Luke 6: 41-42

'The theme for National Reconciliation Week "see the person not the stereotype" is also relevant to Christians as we start the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation,' Executive Secretary of NATSIEC Mr Graeme Mundine said today.

'Reconciliation has two parts, first there is an acknowledgement that something is out of balance; an acknowledgement of sorrow and wrongs. The second part is to take action to make amends. We have seen significant actions in the past two years which have helped Australia move to a better understanding of the pain and suffering of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. read on>>

Negotiation not Coercion needed in the Northern Territory.
Concerns were raised today about The Federal Government’s consultations on the NT Intervention.
Mr Graeme Mundine, The Executive Secretary of The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (NATSIEC), expressed concern that the “consultations’ the Federal
Government are undertaking with Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory are
token gestures.

Zimbabwe Situation Update

The people of Zimbabwe have been forced to live their lives in the face of unspeakable acts of brutality and persecution under President Mugabe’s fierce regime. With the September 2008 power sharing agreement and the swearing in of Morgan Tsvangirai as Prime Minister on 11 February, 2009, the world is holding its breath for the fate of this crippled nation.
