Title General Secretary, CEO and Executive Officer

The question of the title General Secretary was raised at the Rural Conference in 2008 and a motion to keep the title of General Secretary was defeated. In December 2008, Joan McRae put a motion to the Executive to keep the title of General Secretary which was seconded by Helen Granowski. There was debate about whether the title CEO reflects the role as it is much more than business management. It was also felt that as all Councils of Churches from the World Council of Churches down use the title of General Secretary it was better to keep in line with this. The Executive resolved to retain the title General Secretary.
