” Demonstrating the Presence of Christ in the Market Place”
The Box Hill Chaplaincy Project is a small charity that provides a Chaplain 2 days a week to employees, employers, visitors and anyone else associated with the Box Hill Shopping Centre with free care and counselling. Sometimes this ministry extends far beyond Box Hill and includes those who are financially disadvantaged, and people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.
The Box Hill Chaplaincy Project commenced in 1988 as an off shoot of the Box Hill Inter-Church Council. One of the initiators was Rev. Fr. Hal Ranger from St Francis Xavier Catholic Church – a remarkable man who was also an officer of the then City of Box Hill. Shortly after, the churches wound up the inter-church council leaving the Chaplaincy as the only ecumenical body in the area.
The Chaplaincy is an incorporated organization, and consists of individuals drawn from the Baptist, Catholic, Christian Disciples, Lutheran and Uniting Churches.
As well as supporting the Chaplain the committee holds four breakfasts per year, in March, May, September and November.
These feature interesting speakers and members of the public are welcome to attend.
Box Hill churches support the Chaplaincy by annual subscriptions but most of its income derives from Mission Enterprises Blackburn Limited.
