This Sunday, April 19th, the National Walk for Truth, led by former Yoorrook Commissioner Travis Lovett, begins at the Victorian Parliament.
Following the successful and historic Walk for Truth in June 2025, to mark the end of the Yoorrook Justice Commission, Travis is now walking to Parliament House in Canberra on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country, to call for a Federal commitment to a national truth-telling process in partnership with First Peoples.
Church members may consider joining one of the legs of the journey, or simply support on the sidelines or other practical ways.
What you need to know:
- The Walk will start in Naarm on Sunday 19 April and arrive at Parliament House in Canberra on Wednesday 27 May (first day of National Reconciliation Week). There will be a series of public walks and local events led in partnership with Traditional Owners along the course of the walk, and there are certain legs of the walk that the public can join.
- The Walk is a call for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to “publicly commit to a national process of truth-telling led in genuine partnership with First Peoples. We ask you to resource it properly and legislate for it. We ask you to ensure that the truths shared through this process are not just heard and shelved but deeply listened to.” As written in Travis’ open letter.
